Frank Ballance Officially Files For Re-Election

Former Congressman Frank Ballance
RALEIGH, N.C. — It has been an interesting 24 hours regarding the political future of Rep. Frank Ballance.

Various sources told WRAL that Ballance confided in top supporters that he would not seek re-election, but late Tuesday morning, that story changed as the congressman formally filed at the State Board of Elections to keep his seat in Congress.

Ballance has been under heavy pressure since the FBI launched an investigation into the Warren County substance abuse center he founded.

A Ballance representative maintained the congressman always intended to run again. He joins two other Democrats and two Republicans in the race so far.

However, Wilson County Superior Court Judge G.K. Butterfield is hedging his bets. After saying he would not seek Ballance's seat, Butterfield said Tuesday that he is reconsidering a run.
