Officials say Fredrick Ingram of Coats stole the SUV from a Dunn funeral home Friday morning. When authorities tried to pull over Ingram, he fled from police, which led to a three-county chase at speeds of nearly 100 miles per hour.
Authorities say the chase ended on southbound Interstate 95 at exit 79 in Benson when Ingram's vehicle tried to pass a pickup truck that was on the shoulder of the road.
Authorities say the SUV clipped the truck and rolled over several times. Ingram was reportedly thrown from the vehicle and was seriously injured. He was transported to the hospital.
Traffic was backed up for nearly two miles as authorities worked to clear the scene. Traffic is now moving normally in the area.
A couple and their 4-year-old child, who were in the pickup truck, were taken to the hospital, but state troopers say their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Authorities say Ingram faces a number of felony charges. They say he was driving with a revoked license, and he has been in trouble with the law in seven counties in the area.
