Work On Tracks Prompts Changes For Two N.C. Passenger Trains

RALEIGH, N.C. — Two of North Carolina's 12 passenger trains will notoperate during the next two months as a freight railroad companyworks on the tracks between Savannah, Ga., and Jacksonville, Fla.

The New York-Miami Silver Meteor (trains 97 and 98), which normallystops in Fayetteville and Rocky Mount, will be canceled April 24to June 22.

During this time, CSX Transportation will install104,000 concrete and wooden ties, as well as 9,000 feet of newrail, between Savannah and Jacksonville.

To accommodate passengers traveling between New York and Miami,extra equipment and staff will be added to the existing NewYork-Miami Silver Star (trains 91, 92). The train also will runtwo hours earlier.

Due to the schedule change, connecting servicefrom the Piedmont (trains 73, 74) to the Silver Star will not beavailable.
