print friendly

A suspect in the murder of an elderly Durham woman was released on bail Monday from the Durham County jail.

Gregory Lee, Jr., was being held on $250,000 bond, charged with murdering 89-year-old Lois Cannady in June 2002. He is expected to be in court on the felony murder charge April 20.

Cannady was doused with pepper spray and her car stolen from her driveway. Later that night, the 89-year-old woman was shot to death, still holding the phone she used to call 911.

"I can just imagine the fear that went through her mind," said her son, David Cannady. "It tears me all to pieces."

Five teens, including Lee, are charged in connection with Cannady's death.
