JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — A suspect in the shooting of a North Carolina A& T football player has been arrested.
Investigators say Rontragus "Tra" Atkins, 20, shot and killed Herbert Dixon early Saturday morning at the D&L nightclub in Benson.
Atkins is charged with murder, as well as two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious bodily injury, in relation to two others injured in the shooting. He is being held without bond.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, with other arrests possible.
Dixon led the Clinton Dark Horses to the state high school football championship in 2001 before joining the Aggies as a linebacker.
