Weekend Snow Chance For The Triangle Fizzles

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Anyone hoping for snow in areas of the Triangle this weekend was disappointed.

A system that forecasters said could bring some light snow to northern and western areas of the Triangle fizzled.

There was plenty of rain -- and temperatures did dip below freezing -- but the two never combined to bring snow.

Of course, further west, there was plenty of snow and traffic troubles.

Between 2 to 4 inches of snow had fallen in northwestern North Carolina near Boone by 6 p.m. Saturday.

There have also been reports of freezing rain and snow showers in the Piedmont area. Snow fell in Yadkin County, causing some minor wrecks.

The winter storm north of the area is already affecting flights out of RDU.

Officials said American Eagle has cancelled 28 flights for Sunday morning for cities along the Atlantic Coast. Some USAir flights were cancelled for Saturday evening, and more airlines may cancel flights later in the weekend. If you're planning to fly to the Northeast, check with your airline before you leave for the airport.
