Daneille Turner Regan was shot through a bathroom window about 2a.m. Thursday while drying off after a shower. She was at DukeHospital reportedly in stable condition.
Even though the bullet is still lodged in her chest, investigators say Regan is doing well enough now to talk to them.
"We've talked to her a couple of times and she seems very upbeat about helping us try to solve this crime," said Chief Terry Hill, of the Roxboro Police Department.
The morning of the shooting, investigators found Regan's husband, Trooper Bobby Earl Regan Jr., at the home of a friend, Linda Lee Strickland. Police confiscated Regan's service guns and other firearms in Lee's home.
Daneille Regan obtained a domestic violence protective order against her husband May 17, the same day police were called to the couple's home after an argument. The order states Regan threatened to kill his wife.
The State Highway Patrol says Regan was placed on 30-day paid leave. Officials say it is routine to suspend a trooper from duty if they are part of a criminal investigation.
