Weekes Postpones Hand Surgery Until After Season

RALEIGH, N.C. — Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Kevin Weekespostponed surgery on his injured right hand until after the seasonon Thursday.

Weekes was scheduled undergo the season-ending surgery onFriday, but decided to wait after talking with team doctors, saidteam president and GM Jim Rutherford.

Weekes allowed six goals in his last start against Ottawa onTuesday. Before that, Weekes had three shutouts in four starts. Heis 14-21-8 with a 2.45 goals-against average.

The Hurricanes recalled Arturs Irbe on Wednesday to replaceWeekes in the lineup. Irbe will remain with Carolina because backupPatrick DesRochers, broke his right elbow during practice Tuesdayand is expected to miss the rest of the season.
