Power Restored To 30,000 Fayetteville Customers

(PWC) said the outage happened just before 2 p.m. Tuesday and affected about 30,000 customers around Cross Creek Mall.

Most customers had power restored in about an hour, while someon Fort Bragg waited for several hours. The outage also frustrated drivers, who have to maneuver through town without traffic signals.

Officials with Progress Energy said the outage was related to a transmission system failure caused by a car accident on Fort Bragg.

A Bragg spokesperson said mission-essential offices were never impacted because they have backup generators.

The outages affected customers on Fort Bragg, inSpring Lake, and in areas of western and southwestern CumberlandCounty and Fayetteville served by the Fayetteville Public WorksCommission.
