PITTSBURGH — An 80-year-old New Bern man who died last year trying to save a woman and her child from a house fire was honored Thursday by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission.
Major Augustus Fisher died while trying to save Cynthia M. Davisand her one-year-old son Christian on September 9, 2000.
Fisher entered the burning two-story house thinkingthat Davis and her baby were still inside, when they had in factescaped through a second-floor window.
Fisher's body was later found on the first floor near thestairs.
A total of 24 people were honored by at the ceremony.
