Nash teen released from hospital after scalpel attack
A 15-year-old Nash County girl has been charged with attempted first-degree murder in an attack earlier this week on her classmate.

Jasmine Barnes, 16, was walking to a classroom at Southern Nash High School Tuesday morning when, authorities say, a 15-year-old classmate approached her from behind and cut her with a scalpel.
Barnes was being treated at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, her mother said, because her thyroid had been damaged from the attack.
The suspect, whose name isn't being released because she is being charged as a juvenile, faces a charge of attempted first-degree murder and a charge of possession of a weapon on school grounds.
She is expected to appear in juvenile court next month.
Investigators haven't commented on a motive for the attack, but Southern Nash High Principal Connie Bobbitt said the suspect "had an issue" with the victim.
