e-mail print friendly

We hear a discussion of the state's severe budget crisis, we usually hear about the T - word. Tax Increase. Governor Mike Easley's New Tax Commission is looking at a tax structure that hasn't changed in 70 years. When Agriculture and Machinery and textile industries were healthy tax revenue producers. But Dan Gerlack, the Governor's Senior Policy Advisor says in no-way will the new tax commission focus on raising our taxes.

'We'll raise revenue in the correct manner, again this is not a tax raising commission, this is a tax fairness commission'

The Commission will make it's recommendations to state lawmakers who meet in May to wrestle with a one billion dollar budget deficit.
