DURHAM, N.C. — Durham County' s sheriff said Monday he wants a committee to review the department's policy involving off-duty work.
Sheriff Worth Hill said he is considering banning deputies from working off-duty in nightclubs and bars after three deputies were recently fired following a raid at the Durham club La Zona.
Former deputy Michael P. Owens owned the club. He was charged with trafficking cocaine, conspiracy to traffic cocaine and maintaining a building for that purpose.
Brad King and Keith Dodson, who were also terminated from the sheriff's office, worked off-duty as security guards at the club. They, however, have not been charged in connection with the raid.
