CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Authorities are at the scene of a fire on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus.
Emergency personnel said a fire was reported inside the Burnett Womack building on Manning Drive around 11 a.m. Tuesday. The building has been evacuated.
The Burnett Womack building is part of the UNC School of Medicine. It has been under renovation.
Officials at the scene Tuesday said students reported seeing smoke and called the fire department.
The only people inside the building at the time of the fire were construction workers, who got out safely.
Firefighters said the fire started in the basement and that the fire was contained within 20 to 30 minutes.
Investigators still are at the scene trying to determine how the fire started.
