Nine More Voted Into N.C. Sports Hall Of Fame

RALEIGH, N.C. — The President of Lowe's Motor Speedway, H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler is among the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame class of 2004.

Wheeler is one of nine outstanding local sports figures who will be inducted in May. The others are:

  • The late Cary Brewbaker, who coached football at Durham High from 1938 to 45 and was an assistant to Earle Edwards at North Carolina State University in the 1950s and 60s.
  • Joe Cheves, who still teaches professional golfers at age 85.
  • Jimmy Clack, who earned two Super Bowl rings with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  • George Clark, Tony Cloninger, Charles "Babe" Howell, Leora "Sam" Jones, and John Henry Moss.
