A third suspect is in custody and being charged with accessory after the fact in connection with the murder of a man and a woman in a Wayne County mobile home on New Year's Day.

Alonza Sonye Bedell, 19, of Goldsboro was charged Friday and placed in the Wayne County Jail with no bond.

Bedell was the third defendant to be arrested in connection with the murder of Michael Shawn Maynard and Christie Nicole Jones around 4 a.m. Thursday. Christopher Lee Brown, 19, was arrested Thursday. Telly Cox was also arrested.

Investigators said robbery was the motive.

"I'm not going to comment on the items stolen from the residence, but we did recover property stolen from the residence," said Capt. George Raecher, of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.

According to Maynard's family, his 7-year-old daughter witnessed the killings and called 911.

"I think everybody is very emotionally distraught, especially the child. That's a horrible thing for anybody to see, especially a child of that age," said Wayne County Sheriff Carey Winders.

Investigators said the 7-year-old girl gave them some useful information, but they would not say exactly what she told them. Authorities said at least one of the suspects knew the victims and they did not find any signs of forced entry. Authorities will not say how many times the victims were shot or exactly what happened inside.

Investigators said Jones survived a serious car accident several months ago. They said she had trouble walking and Maynard was helping her recover.
