Cumberland Authorities Find Dumpster Where Newborn Was Left

Posted Updated

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — Detectives in Cumberland County believe they found the Dumpster where an infant's body was thrown away.

Investigators tell WRAL they tracked the garbage around "baby Christopher" back to a recycling bin on Bingham Road in the Hope Mills area of Cumberland County. Authorities said they narrowed down the search from 60 Dumpsters countywide by looking at the discarded information near the location of the infant's body.

The infant's body was found Christmas Eve while workers at a recycling plant were going through cardboard boxes. Investigators said the child's umbilical cord was still attached.

On Thursday, the medical examiner determined "baby Christopher" was stillborn, not killed after birth.

Authorities have not been able to find the infant's mother.
