FluMist Available Monday In Wake, Orange Counties

The Wake and Orange county health departments have run out of flu shots for now. But they still have a limited supply of FluMist, and they will be offering the nasal vaccine Monday.

In Raleigh, FluMist will be available on a first-come, first-served basis until 3 p.m. Monday at the Wake County clinic on SunnyBrook Road.

FluMist will be available Monday in Hillsborough until 5 p.m. at the Orange County Health Department at 300 West Tryon Street.

The Orange County walk-in clinic on Homestead Road in Chapel Hill will offer FluMist on Tuesday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m.-noon.

There is a fee of $25 for the vaccine, no charge for Medicaid patients.

Because FluMist uses a live culture, only healthy people between the ages of 5 and 49 can use it.

Vaccines are not the only thing in short supply this flu season. Drugs that treat the symptoms also are hard to find.

Pharmacists in Greensboro say some people drove more than an hour just to find TamiFlu. People in need of the drug say the long drive is worth the relief.
