Rocky Mount Committee Yet To Decide Who Will Pay For New MLK Statue

Posted Updated

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount will soon get a new statue of Martin Luther King Jr., but a committee does not know from where to get the money.

A committee voted to rehire the artist who created the original statue. The city will owe him $56,000 -- the same amount he earned for the last statue.

The original statue came down because residents said it did not look like the civil rights leader.

The committee will decide on funding in January.
