Witness: Driver speeding during series of Fayetteville hit-and-runs

Terry Chole Marshall, 33, of Smith Road, was charged with driving while impaired and six counts of hit-and-run. He was out of jail Monday after posting bond.

Robert Peyronel said he was at a stop sign on Sand Hill Road, waiting to turn onto Chicken Foot Road, on Saturday afternoon when his Buick LeSabre was hit from behind.

"The next thing I know, I feel 'bam.' I get plowed," Payronel said Monday. "I figured that, when I looked back and he (threw up his hands) and he was just smiling, I was, like, he's got to be wasted."

The driver cut in front of traffic and sped off down Chicken Foot Road, then onto northbound Interstate 95, said Peyronel, who called 911 and followed the man.

"I'm doing about 80 mph. The guy was doing at least 110 mph," he said. "He was bobbing and weaving through traffic – I'm talking, cutting people off.

"He put everybody in danger who was on that highway. He could have caused a 10-car pileup," he said.

Police said the driver got off I-95 at Cedar Creek Road, where he hit another vehicle and kept on going.

They said he then caused four more hit-and-run collisions – at Cedar Creek and Clinton roads, McPherson Church and Morganton roads, Fisher Road and Lakeway Drive and Fisher Road and Lakewood Drive – while driving more than 10 miles west across Fayetteville.

The driver's black Jeep Liberty finally ran off Fisher Road and overturned a couple of times, police said.

No one was seriously injured in any of the collisions, and damage to the vehicles was minor.

"The few reports I have been able to see so far have been about $600 to $800 in damage," said Gavin MacRoberts, spokesman for the Fayetteville Police Department.

A man claiming to be Marshall's cousin said Marshall appeared to be heading to his girlfriend's home in west Fayetteville.
