HATTERAS VILLAGE, N.C. — The road to Hatteras Village could open as early as Tuesday if the weather holds out.
State Department of Transportation crews expect to finish paving the new section of Highway 12 on Monday.
If the weather is nice Tuesday, crews say they can put the yellow stripes down and open the road around late Tuesday afternoon. Property owners will only be allowed access to Hatteras Village for now.
Residents in Hatteras Village have relied on a ferry system since September when Hurricane Isabel knocked out that section of highway.
