RALEIGH, N.C. — Somebody in North Carolina could be the latest millionaire. The winning Powerball ticket was sold in Halifax County.

That ticket is worth an estimated $74 million. The winning numbers are 2, 8, 9, 12, 19 and the Powerball is 25.

The winner, who has yet to come forward, holds the first winning Powerball ticket sold in the state since North Carolina joined the multi-state game in May.

State lottery officials were performing security checks Thursday and hadn't revealed the location of the store where the ticket was purchased. So, the winning ticket was talk of every store across the county.

"Somebody is a lucky somebody, I tell you," resident Linda Bass said.

"It's exciting because Halifax County is a poor county, and just knowing that ticket was sold here is great news," resident Patricia Lowe said.

"I just checked (my ticket), and it's not a winner. Maybe it's one of my cousins," resident Kennedy McDaniel said.

The winner has 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim his or her prize at the lottery headquarters in Raleigh.

There were also several other big winners in North Carolina for Wednesday's drawing. One person holds a ticket worth $200,000 for matching the five white balls, but not the Powerball.

There were also six people that matched four of the white balls plus the Powerball, which is worth $10,000.
