Chapel Hill Man Arrested On Sex Charges

CHAPEL HILL — The Chapel Hill Police Department has arrested Matthew Barton Savage on six counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor after images depicting child pornography were found on his computer.

Savage, 35, lives at 105 Pinegate Circle, Apartment 9, Chapel Hill. He was arrested Wednesday.

The arrest resulted from a cooperative effort between the FBI High Tech Crimes Task Force and the Chapel Hill Police Department's Technical Services Unit.

Members of the Chapel Hill Police Department have participated on the FBI High Tech Crimes Task Force since 2002.

The Technical Services Unit, recently created with the assistance of grant funding from the North Carolina Governor's Crime Commission, supports the department's technology and computer initiatives.
