Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Transportation plans to reopen westbound I-40 ramps at N.C. 54 in Durham County at 8 p.m. Friday.

The department announced plans to close the westbound I-40 ramps at U.S. 15-501 (exit 270) the same night. The ramps will remain closed for about 35 days.

During this time, motorists should use the following signed detours:

  • I-40 westbound motorists needing to exit on U.S. 15-501 (exit 270) should travel to N.C. 86 (exit 266) to I-40 East to U.S. 15-501 (exit 270).
  • U.S. 15-501 motorists needing to travel on I-40 West should travel I-40 East to N.C. 54 (exit 273) to I-40 West.
  • The ramp closings are necessary to raise the ramp pavement levels in conjunction with the I-40 widening project.

Motorists can expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
