<b>DURHAM, N.C.</b> — A Durham man was killed in a motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon.

According to police, 31-year-old Eric Rankin lost control of his motorcycle on Grandale Drive. He was thrown from the bike and into a tree.

Rankin was pronunced dead at the scene. Investigators said he was wearing a helmet.

WRAL News was told that 24 students were on board, ages 5 to 11. Two students were taken to WakeMed for femur fractures and facial lacerations. Seven other students were taken to a hospital in Smithfield.
