Cumberland Deputies Undergo Psychological Testing After Toddler's Death

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — Cumberland County deputies are undergoing psychological testing because of a violent child murder.

Maj. Sam Pennica, of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, said the death of 2-year-old Andrea Chavarria was so horrific that the 16 investigating deputies were checked out by psychologists to make sure the incident is not impacting their mental or emotional health.

Pennica said someone beat the toddler before she died Friday morning.

Karla Carlson, Andrea's mother and stepfather Daniel Carlson are charged with her murder.
