RALEIGH, N.C. — The West Nile virus claimed its first death in North Carolina this year.
The state health department said an older man in the central part of the state died from the mosquito-borne virus.
Health officials said his immune system was already weak from an previous illness.
The health department is not releasing more details about the victim.
