Company Drops Request To Build Lee County Landfill

LEE COUNTY, N.C. — There is relief for thousands of Lee County residents fighting a proposed landfill. The company that wanted to build the site dropped its request Monday.

The proposed landfill was to be located on Valley Road. The plan sparked heated debate among residents. Thousands of people signed a petition opposing the landfill.

A spokeman for MMR Southern did not say why it dropped the request.
