Suspect In Rape, Kidnapping, Robbery Turns Himself In

DURHAM, N.C. — Antonio "Tony" Harris, who was charged with breaking into an apartment on Naples Place June 7 and sexually assaulting and robbing the resident, turned himself in Wednesday at Durham police headquarters.

The resident on Naples Place told investigators that a man armed with a knife broke into her apartment shortly after 4 a.m., raped her, then stole her cell phone and wallet.

Harris, 26, is charged with first-degree rape, first-degree burglary, first-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

When the incident occurred, Harris was out on bond awaiting trial on charges of second-degree kidnapping, assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, communicating threats and tampering with emergency equipment.

Harris posted a $1,000 bond on those charges on May 27, 2003.
