Harnett County Child Dies After Being Hit By SUV

Posted Updated

LINDEN, N.C. — An 11-year-old Harnett County boy died Wednesday after being hit by an SUV while riding his bicycle around noon Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Darrius Elliott of Linden, reportedly was riding his bicycle down Walker Road when he moved in front of a Suzuki SUV driven by Willie Monds of Bunnlevel.

Investigators said Monds was driving his Suzuki in the same direction that Elliott was traveling and moved all the way into the other lane to give Elliott enough room to ride. But the child made a left turn right in front of the vehicle and was struck.

Elliott was transported to Good Hope Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Monds reportedly will not face charges.
