Victim Of Cary Rest Home Rape Dies

print friendly

An elderly woman who was raped and beaten in a Cary nursing home has died. Wake County officials say medical evidence could lead to new charges in the case.

The 90-year-old woman died Friday. Gregory Davis, 17, admitted to the crimes and was arrested June 24. He is charged with first-degree rape and first-degree burglary.

Investigators are waiting to hear whether medical evidence links her death to the attack. If autopsy results support the theory, Davis could face murder charges.

Investigators said early the morning of June 24, the door alarm at the Chatham Creek Rest Home went off. A short time later, police said employees saw Davis in the building. It was an hour before staff discovered a resident had been beaten and raped.

Cary Police said Davis left evidence at the rest home that led them to him.

Wake County inspectors are finishing their investigation into the rest home's security procedures. Results could come later this week.
