Officials are gearing up for the 2006 N.C. State Fair, which is set for Oct. 13-22.

Powers Great American Midway of Burgaw will operate the Midway this year, bringing many rides and games for people to enjoy.

This year, there will be plenty of things to keep fairgoers busy. Besides the usual crowd favorites such as the pig races and concerts, there will be some new exhibitors in Pitzer Heritage Circle, a free entertainment opportunity where visitors can make their own music video.

On opening day, Heritage Circle will take center stage with opening ceremony activities and a celebration of Tobacco Heritage Day. Former and current tobacco growers are encouraged to join Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler in stringing tobacco and loading it into the refurbished barn to be flue-cured during the Fair.

The state fair will also feature a new facility on the Midway that provides additional restrooms as well as law enforcement and Red Cross services.
