Cumberland Deputy Injured In Crash

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Cumberland County sheriff's deputy was hospitalized on Saturday following an early-morning accident.

The state Highway Patrol said Hiram Grantham was on his way to assist another officer on Wade-Stedman Road between Interstate 95 and Highway 301 in Cumberland County when he ran off the road and hit a tree.

Grantham was taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital, where he underwent surgery for abdominal injuries Saturday morning. He was listed in good condition late Sunday afternoon.

Cumberland County officials said the accident remains under investigation.
