The accident resulted in two deaths, numerous injuries and brought traffic to a standstill for hours.
Kelly Rice, 21, and her younger brother, Brian, 12, were discharged Sunday from WakeMed. They were riding in a Jeep that was struck by a Nissan Pathfinder after the Pathfinder blew a tire, crossed the median, and hit them. The driver of a tractor-trailer involved in the accident, Martin Watts, also has been released from WakeMed.
Both people in the Pathfinder died. All four passengers in the Jeep, who were on their way from Greensboro to the beach, were taken to the hospital.
Jeep driver Waylan Goode, 22, was in fair condition. Colin McCarthy, a 13-year-old passenger in the Jeep, was listed in fair condition.
After the Pathfiender crashed into the Jeep around 11 a.m. Saturday, it collided with a tractor-trailer, then flipped over.
Police identified the couple who died as Elizabeth Anderson and her husband, Robert Anderson, of Robertsville, Mo.
Traffic was backed up for more than nine miles as investigators reconstructed the accident and cleared debris from the road.
Officials said everyone involved in the accident was wearing a seatbelt.
