Rocks Fall On Parked Cars In Downtown Raleigh

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police said Monday that no charges were expected in an accident on Sunday in which a truckload of rocks fell on two parked cars.

Witnesses said the truck driver apparently blew a tire when he drove around a curve and tipped over at the intersection of St. Mary's and Hillsborough streets near downtown shortly before 11:20 a.m.

Investigators said Monday that the blown tires on the truck caused its weight to shift and the rocks to fall onto the vehicles. There were no reports of injuries.

"We were in church right around the corner when it happened," said Barry Bridges, the owner of the car. "We walked out and saw a lot of police cars."

Bridges said that as he got closer, he realized it was his car.

"It's quite a mess," he said, adding that he will probably have to ride his bicycle for a while.
