Raleigh Crash
RALEIGH, N.C. — Two people were killed in a vehicle collision early Sunday in Wake County, just north of Raleigh.

An investigator with the state Highway Patrol said the two vehicles, traveling in opposite directions on a straight stretch of N.C. Highway 50, hit each other head-on near N.C. Highway 98 at about 6:20 a.m.

When authorities arrived at the scene, the vehicle traveling northbound was found down an embankment. The driver, Jacqueline Watson, 44, of Raleigh, was pinned inside. She died en route to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

The other vehicle, which was traveling southbound, was driven by Michael Sauer, 20, of Raleigh. He died at the scene, investigators said.

The cause of the accident was still under investigation Sunday evening, but authorities at the accident scene did not think speed was a factor.
