CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Chapel Hill police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened early Saturday morning outside a nightclub.

Authorities said the shooting occurred at about 2 a.m. in the parking lot of Avalon Night Club and Keys Food Mart on Rosemary Street when the club was closing.

When officers responded, they found Kevdrian Swan, 26, lying in the parking lot of the store. According to police, he had been shot multiple times with a rifle and 12 bullet casings were found near his body.

Swan was transported to UNC Hospitals where he was pronounced dead.

According to police, a male assailant wearing dark-colored shorts and a white T-shirt was seen leaving the scene of the shooting in a dark-colored car. Authorities said the shooting remains under investigation.

It is the third shooting in the area in the last two months. Chapel Hill's police chief and town manager are expected to talk on Monday about whether the Avalon club should stay open.
