Southend Brewery In Glenwood South Closes

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Southend Brewery & Smokehouse, one of the best-known microbreweries with such brews as Southend Blonde and Southend Stout, in Raleigh's popular Glenwood South district, has closed its doors.

A spokesman for the Charlotte-based owners said the establishment had been sold to another Raleigh firm, which he refused to identify.

"I do believe they will keep the brewery," he said of the new owners.

The eight-year-old brewery and restaurant was located at 505 West Jones Street.

Southend was owned by Southend Brewing Ventures of Charlotte. The company also operates restaurants and microbreweries in Charlotte and Charleston, S.C.

The Raleigh business was sold so the company "could focus its attention on the other two locations," the spokesman said.
