Church Group Back On Road Again After Bus Fire

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Connecticut church group is back on the road after a bus fire on Interstate 95 stranded them in Fayetteville.

Authorities said the group was heading to a convention in Florida when a fire started in the engine compartment of the bus. The fire later spread to the rubber on the vehicle's back right tire and then through the passenger section of the bus.

The fire caused part of Interstate 95 to close Sunday afternoon and caused traffic delays for more than an hour.

Thirty-seven passengers on the bus were not injured.

Members of the church group spent the night in a Fayetteville hotel and resumed their trip to Florida Monday morning.
