Authorities Search For Two Escapees From Wake Correctional Center

RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities are looking for two inmates who escaped from the

Wake Correctional Center

in Raleigh around 9 p.m. Monday.

The Wake Correctional Center, located on Rock Quarry Road, is a minimum security facility for men run by the

Department of Correction

.

Both men have lengthy felony records including assault on a police officer.

Officials said

McKinley Jones

, 25, has a lengthy rap sheet, including drug and theft convictions. His most recent conviction was in March is for assaulting a law enforcement officer.

Tarvis Weldon

, 28, has a lengthy record, including robbery and drug charges.

Superintendent Eileen Cochrane said both men scaled the back fence of the outside yard area.At least one man suffered cuts from the razor wire. Cochrane said she believes the men planned their escape from the yard, but for security reasons, will not say how. Both men were last seen wearing green prison clothes.

The escape happened just before the prison yard was supposed to close and around a shift change. Authorities are looking through records to find out who visited the men most recently.
