William Barrett Foster, 17, who had been in an area hospital since the late-April incident, was charged with two counts of felony kidnapping, assault by pointing a gun and having a weapon on school property.

The charges stem from an April 24 incident in which police said a student held civics teacher Lisa Kukla and sophomore Chelsea Slegal hostage in a classroom at East Chapel Hill High School.
According to a warrant in the case, the student carried a shotgun on campus, as well as an air rifle and hunting knife.
After more than an hour of holding Kukla and Slegal hostage, school officials said Kukla was able to talk the suspect out of shooting them.
The suspect, however, did fire two shots through a classroom window before fleeing the school on foot. School officials said he then went home and told his mother what had happened. She then drove him to UNC Hospitals.
School officials have said they do not know why the student took the student and teacher hostage and that it appeared to be a random act. Foster does not have a school disciplinary record on file.
Foster was released on a $40,000 secured bond, police said.
