RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Joe Freddoso, director of site operations for

Cisco Systems

in RTP and a former chairman of the North Carolina Technology Association, is transferring to another position within Cisco.

Freddoso, one of the best-known figures in the local technology community after six years of working with media and community relations at the RTP campus, will take over as senior director of employee commitment and communications. Freddoso will transfer to Cisco's headquarters in San Jose, CA. in July.

"This was a very hard decision for us," Freddoso said. "The Triangle is so unique, and there are so many great leaders I've had a chance to work with, from the Special Olympics to Cisco."

Freddoso, a native of Buffalo, N.Y., was chief executive officer of the Special Olympics World Games that were held in the Triangle in 1999. He joined Cisco shortly thereafter. Freddoso, 43, spent his career in sports event management prior to Cisco.

In 2005, Freddoso served as chairman of the North Carolina Technology Association.

Among Freddoso's new responsibilities will be to work on volunteerism, corporate internal communications and intranet strategy. He will be part of Cisco's human resources leadership team.

While at RTP, Freddoso has championed volunteerism efforts with such groups as the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

"This will be a real change for me," Freddoso said. "My job here was so externally focused. I have a real chance to impact on my fellow employees, hopefully positively."

Freddoso, a graduate of Marietta College in Marietta, OH, lives in Raleigh with his wife and four children.
