The decision to add jobs in North Carolina is a reflection of the company's satisfaction with the operation, work force and support received from the community, said Skip Hanson, West's chief administrative officer.
"We've had really good luck, and Rocky Mount has been a really good community for us," Hanson told WRAL.com. "The enthusiasm for the jobs has been excellent.
"Those are reasons why we continue to look at opportunities and to further leverage that environment and maximize the call center we have there."
West will have a job fair for prospective employees on Oct. 17 beginning at 8 a.m. The call center is located at 1974 Stone Rose Dr. in Rocky Mount.
West, which is based in Omaha, Neb., operates 46 call centers and employs some 28,000 people. West opened the Rocky Mount call center in April 2005 in a facility that had housed a closed-down call center.
"Obviously, we have ramped up quickly and the community embraced us," Hanson said. "The facility is doing very well."
The winning of a new client created the need for additional jobs, and the firm's experiences in Rocky Mount helped persuade West to add jobs there, he added. West currently employs 575 people at that location.
"We've got some clients whose business is growing," Hanson explained. "Being in Rocky Mount afforded us the opportunity to continue to grow to support them.
"The quality of the workers has been good and the skills have been good," he added. "Based upon our analysis in coming into the community, it meets our expectations we came in with."
Beginning wages at the call center are $8 for the first 90 days then increase to $8.85. A $1 shift differential is paid to shifts worked between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. after the first 90 days.
West also offers video and audio conferencing services as well as accounts-receivable management.
