ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — The Rocky Mount Police Department has arrested three men in connection with a burglary and rape that occurred this week in the 900 block of Tyan Street.
Taken into custody on Tuesday were 23-year-old Richard Parker, 20-year-old Jomente Spragley and 24-year-old Harold Phillips.
All three suspects live in Rocky Mount. All three were charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree rape and first-degree sexual offense.
Authorities said three men forced their way into a house around 1:30 a.m. Sunday where a 26-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter lived. After demanding money of the woman, police said, each man sexually assaulted her in one room while another held the daughter at gunpoint in another room.
The gunmen left with an undisclosed amount of money and a cordless phone, authorities said.
It marked the third incident in less than a week involving a trio of gunmen committing robbery and assault in the area. Police said Wednesday that Parker, Spragley and Phillips are not connected to the other robberies.
Parker, who is being held in the Edgecombe County jail on $200,000 bond, also faces related charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony conspiracy. He faces unrelated charges of felonious restraint, assault by pointing a gun and possession of marijuana with intent to sell and deliver.
Spragley is being held on $130,000. He faces related charges of first-degree sexual offense, robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony conspiracy.
Phillips also is being held on $130,000 bond. He faces related charges of first-degree sexual offense, robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony conspiracy.
