Durham Highway Shooting Ruled Apparent Suicide

DURHAM, N.C. — A fatal shooting Tuesday afternoon on U.S. 70 has been ruled an apparent suicide, based on evidence from the scene, further investigation by detectives and autopsy results.

The incident happened around 2:15 p.m. when a westbound green ChevroletCavalier struck two other westbound vehicles on U.S. 70 near the Geer Streetexit.

The Cavalier then ran off the left side of the road and slid down an embankment toward Geer Street.

The driver of the Cavalier, David Ferrell, 37, of Redding Lane, was pronounced dead at the scene. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
