Jason O'Neil Brown, who was wanted in connection with an April 21 home invasion and assault on Cheviot Street, turned himself in Wednesday at Durham Police Headquarters. He had been profiled by Durham CrimeStoppers.
Brown, being held in the Durham County jail under $350,000 bond, told officers he turned himself in because he did not want anyone to make money for turning him in. He is expected to make his first court appearance Thursday morning.
Investigators said Brown broke into Daniel Peaks' home on Monday and tried to slit Peaks' throat.
The 21-year-old Brown was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, second-degree kidnapping, felony breaking and entering and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Monday in the 900 block of Cheviot Street. The victim left his house for a short time and apparently surprised an intruder when he came home.
The intruder cut the phone cords, bound the victim with the cords and stuffed a sock in his mouth. The intruder robbed the victim and stabbed him several times.
