Seven workers with the state Department of Transportation allege their supervisor put a hangman's noose in their work area and left it there for days.
Protesters walked to several areas in downtown Raleigh Wednesday, including the Raleigh office of the U.S. Department of Transportation and asked that federal funds be cut off to North Carolina.
"We want you to tell Gov. [Mike] Easley that it is time for him to take some strong action with the people at the DOT," attorney Al McSurely said.
Protesters also plan to meet with the members of the General Assembly to press their case.
DOT spokeswoman Sherri Creech-Johnson said the agency does notcondone workplace harassment and has asked for independentinvestigations.
She said the DOT has hired an outside firm to review andinvestigate the complaint. The agency also has contacted the SBI.
