Stranded Canoeists Keep Haw River Rescuers Busy

Posted Updated

CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — For two straight nights, rescuers have been called out to the Haw River in Chatham County to help stranded canoeists.

In addition to occurring on consecutive nights, both rescues occurred in the same location in the River.

It took crews more than an hour to pull Kevin Wynn and Erica Hinton, both of Raleigh, onto shore Monday night. Neither was hurt.

Sunday night, other canoeists were stranded at the exact same location.

Police say the river is swollen because of the recent rainfall, and that is attracting attracting boaters, canoeists and kayakers.
