DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police investigators have charged four men with robbing O'Neal's Quick Stop at 1907 Cheek Road at gunpoint Monday night.

Officers responded to a robbery call at the store at 10:58 p.m. on Monday. A clerk told officers he was outside reading the gas pumps when he was ambushed and forced back inside the store.

Once inside the store, police said, the suspects robbed two employees at gunpoint of cash and phone cards.

A few minutes later, according to police, Durham officers B.B. Parrott and J.R. LeConey got behind a suspicious vehicle on Cheek Road and followed it to Roxboro Road. When the officers stopped the car, a passenger in the back seat jumped out and ran.

Officer LeConey and K-9 Officer A.T. Hall chased the suspect, later identified as Billy Richardson, Jr., into the woods near Bragtown Baptist Church. Officers found Richardson hiding under several fallen pine trees.

Hall and K-9 Bosco also found a handgun and cash hidden in the woods.

Investigators charged Richardson, 17, of 3334 Hinson Drive, along with 20-year-old Ricardo R. Thomas, of 1344 Maplewood Drive, 19-year-old Randall Lee Bass, of 1344 Maplewood Drive, and 25-year-old Thomas Jay Taylor, of Morreene Road, with robbery with a dangerous weapon.
