FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police said two women found shot to death at a Fayetteville apartment Wednesday night were the victims of domestic violence.

Benita Diane McMillan, 26, and her cousin, Tierra Nicole Underwood, 29, were found lying outside the back door at 209 Melvin Court at about 9 p.m., Fayetteville Police Sgt. Gary Womble said.

They arrested McMillan's boyfriend, Jermaine Lamar Johnson, 24, and charged him with two counts of first-degree murder.

Three children – ages 8, 4 and 2 – whom neighbors say belonged to Underwood were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting. They were not injured.

McMillan had a baby with Johnson, neighbors also said. After the shooting, they said, he left with his baby and went to another apartment, where he asked neighbors to call 911.

"He didn't say anything," neighbor Laurie Chance said. "The only thing he said (was that) he killed them. He said, 'I shot both of them.'"

"It's really sad," she added. "It's a heartbreaking thing."
